Virtualisation Expert Needed
A
small Brighton team that hosts websites for museums needs a local
expert on virtualisation to help them to set up a new server.
Our new production server will be running public websites from a co-located space. We want to use virtualisation because it seems to offer:
- Better use of under-utilised resources.
- Improved stability (by running separate services in separate OSs),
- Maintenance and manageability benefits.
We want to run multiple virtual operating systems, mainly Linux but also Windows. The virtual operating systems will be running Plone, Zope, Python, Apache, Squid, etc
Our preferences for the server:- Linux (Ubuntu Server Edition)
- VMWare (but open to other options)
Who we are looking for
Someone who can fully set up and configure a working server (we already have the server). A knowledge of Apache, Squid and/or other caching technologies would also be helpful.
The outcome we need
- The server must be highly available and stable
- The server must be easy to manage and maintain
- The virtual operating systems must be easy to back up
- The virtual operating systems must be transferable to another server
- Access to administer each virtual OS remotely using secure protocols
